There is a void in the private sector, meaning hospital and casino security, retail loss prevention and security for private corrections facilities. If these companies don’t properly train their security personnel, they could hurt someone, or act in a way that endangers themselves and others.

Advanced Security Options (ASO), based in New Mexico, is the country’s first company exclusively focused on providing private businesses and detention centers certified, proven security training. Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, ASO’s highly skilled instructors have a combined 30 years of experience working for and training state corrections, state and federal probation, parole and law enforcement.

“The federal government and state agencies have established security training programs. But there is a void in the private sector, meaning hospital and casino security, retail loss prevention and security for private corrections facilities. If these companies don’t properly train their security personnel, they could hurt someone, or act in a way that endangers themselves and others,” says Aaron Bell, ASO founder and owner. “That can lead to lawsuits. That’s why I opened Advanced Security Options. No one else is offering this type of training. And my team is more qualified than anyone else to do it.”

Most ASO instructors are nationally Training for Trainers certified through the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. This ensures that ASO uses the latest course curricula. And because they are also currently employed with state agencies, ASO’s instructors are experienced in using their training in the real world.

ASO trains private security and detention personnel with certified and accredited classroom instruction and/or hands on instruction, offering more than 20 courses, including:

  • Communications, courtroom demeanor, ethics and professionalism, interviewing, report writing and non-verbal communication
  • Defensive tactics, office safety and use of force
  • Chemical agents, bloodborne pathogens, narcotics recognition and substance abuse
  • Surveillance, inmate transport, searches, and perimeter control
  • Crowd control, building entry, room clearing, movement/extraction, riot
  • Weapons
  • Health, CPR/first aid, physical fitness

Capt. Wade Ellis of the Santa Fe County (New Mexico) Corrections Department recently completed ASO’s 2 ½ week defensive tactics course. “Through my career, I’ve attended several trainings, including trainings with the military. Not only was [ASO’s course] challenging, it was rewarding. I feel very accomplished for doing it. Anyone who is looking to better their agency, I would recommend this course very highly. The instructors were knowledgeable, professional, were able to work through different scenarios with us, and gave us options for each technique and tactic that they taught us to make it more effective.”
