Robbins Media Group Helps Young Men Grow up with Character and Confidence

Robbins Media Group hosts special event for Men in the Making, a group that helps young men who don’t have a male support network, giving them guidance.

One of our first initiatives is our upcoming ‘Backback to School’ promotion where we are donating a backpack filled with school supplies for each new customer we add over the next four weeks.

Mike Robbins, President and CEO of Robbins Media Group (RMG), a privately held, Charlotte, NC-based media company that specializes in the sale of advertising placement to the local business community, is sponsoring a graduation dinner for Men in the Making on Tuesday, May 22. Men in the Making clubs, the brainchild of the 1M Mentoring Foundation, are weekly service-learning mentoring meetings where guys find a sense of belonging while learning the life skills and character traits of confident and capable men.

“Roberta, my wife, recently retired from her career in industrial sales to spearhead a philanthropic outreach program for RMG focused on assisting children of need in our communities. One of our first initiatives is our upcoming ‘Backback to School’ promotion where we are donating a backpack filled with school supplies for each new customer we add over the next four weeks,” said Robbins. “When contacting schools to identify participants, Kim Paige, a School Counselor at Mooresville Intermediate School, expressed an interest in participating and indicated they could also use support for their Men in the Making program. After learning of the goals of that program, I thought it a perfect fit for our new philanthropic outreach program.”

Mentoring these young men can help decrease student conflict, discipline referral, feelings of isolation, absences and at-risk behavior. It also increases self-confidence, student attendance, academic performance, goal setting and achievement and communication skills.

Furthermore, youth that are mentored are 130% more likely to hold leadership positions, 90% say they are interested in becoming a mentor, 81% are more likely to participate in sports and extracurricular activities, 78% are more likely to volunteer regularly in their community, 55% are more likely to enroll in college, 52% are less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 46% are less likely to initiate drug use.
