FAIRFAX, Va. (PRWEB) May 31, 2018 -- The Washington Film Festival presented a mixture of exhilarating and inspirational fresh films and succeeded in its aim to promote an appreciation and comprehension of the world around us through the medium of moving pictures.
Independent filmmakers, screenplay writers, cinematographers, distributors and other professionals were able to meet together in pleasant and informal surroundings to view exciting new projects.
Many high caliber and inspirational new films were shown at the Landmark Theatres and over 25 award categories were contested – some in which entrants were able to submit multiple nominations for more than one project. The winners and commended competitors were chosen by an international panel of judges from the film industry. The categories included the best film, producer, director, short film, screenplay, actor, actress, foreign film and student film.
The judging panel of the festival was truly international and was headed by Swedish-American filmmaker Bo Svenson - the award winning writer, actor, producer and director. Other members of an extremely prestigious and experienced jury included Canadian actress, singer and filmmaker Desiree Elle, American film marketing specialist Val Verse and Brazilian cinematographer Marcelo Brasil. The panel were able to deliberate carefully over many excellent submissions.
The Washington Film Festival contained several sectors concerned not only with the production but also the distribution and promotion processes of independent filmmaking. The ‘Investor’s Sector’ was created to help filmmakers to gain access to investments and give advice to unique and talented new screenplay writers regarding funding and sponsorship of their works. Additionally the ‘Marketing Sector’ was designated to advise moviemakers about ways to promote their work to wider audiences and methods to advertise and create publicity for humbly funded projects. The ‘Film Distribution Sector’ was set up to help attendees at the Washington Film Festival to create deals with distribution companies to help create wider exposure not only in the USA, but also further afield in Canada, Europe and Asia.
The Washington Film Festival was an excellent and well-attended one day event.
