Faye Whatley Thompson’s New Book “Precious in His Sight” is a Moving Memoir of Life During the Pivotal Racial Clashes in the American Deep South of the Fifties
MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) May 23, 2018 -- Faye Whatley Thompson, an artist, writer, musician, mother of five, and retired civil service worker who lives with her retired-military husband in Mexico Beach, Florida, has completed her new book “Precious in His Sight”: a powerfully insightful book about racial discrimination and God’s undiscriminating love.
Faye Whatley Thompson writes about how her Christian upbringing set her at odds with the surrounding casual discrimination: “Our parents were very firm about teaching us not to use slang words when referring to the colored people. The word nigger was not allowed in our house. Many of the more well-to-do homes would not let the colored people come in the front door, but the maids who worked for us always used the front door the same as we did. There were some people who thought that if several colored people were walking on the sidewalk toward us that we should not move over to let them pass by. On one occasion, when another girl and I were walking together, she said, ‘Here come “niggers,” but you don’t have to move over for them.’
I told her, ‘They have as much right to walk on the sidewalk as we do,’ and as we came nearer to them, I stepped over into the grassy area and let them pass by, and that was the end of that.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Faye Whatley Thompson’s new book is a startling, heartwarming testament to God’s all-encompassing love. A worthwhile read for all, red and yellow, black or white.
