And while a reputable agent certainly has valuable experience, for many families those fees may be an unnecessary luxury.
Sensible Surrogacy, a leading online consultancy, has adopted a new solution. Rather than paying exorbitant fees to a professional surrogacy agent, the Consultancy is advising parents to take an agency-free approach to surrogacy. She will carry the baby on behalf of the Intended Parents, which itself is challenging. When the baby is born, she gives full parental rights to the biological parents. Dozens of families take the Independent Surrogacy option in the United States every year. But that’s still just a small fraction of all programs – most still use a commercial agent.
