Thomas Robinson, management consultant and former city manager of La Mirada and La Habra Heights, said the impacts of a major quake can strike at both a micro and macro level. “Small business owners need to prepare now in order to protect their employees, secure their investments and their ability to continue operations following emergencies,” he said.
Optimum Seismic Vice President Narek Ekmekjyan will present information about the types of structures proven to be vulnerable to damage in major earthquakes, along with details on upcoming legislation that will help cities identify structures that may collapse or fail in a major quake.
“This is a very important topic that impacts every faction of our communities,” said BizFed CEO, Tracy Hernandez. “We are fortunate to have Optimum Seismic, one of California’s leading retrofit companies, as our educational partner on this event.”
Optimum Seismic COO Ali Sahabi said the resiliency of L.A. communities is one of the region’s most pressing issues. “The first step to solving a problem is to define it,” Sahabi said. “By identifying our vulnerable buildings which are occupied by many of our small businesses, we can help them quantify the risks associated with a specific property. This should be an important priority for all leaders in business and government, as small businesses make up 92 percent of all California economy.”
