The SAE Foundation raises nearly $300,000 for STEM Education
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) May 29, 2018 -- Nearly 300 guests along with 50 students, educators and volunteers came together May 24 for the SAE Foundation Annual Celebration at the historic Detroit Masonic Temple. The event – in its 21st year - is the largest SAE Foundation fundraiser.
Over the past 21 years, the event has raised over $6 million to support SAE’s STEM education programs. This year’s event raised nearly $300,000.
The SAE Foundation is committed to inspiring STEM curiosity through hands-on, research-based STEM education. This event honors some of the best and brightest leaders in the mobility industry and celebrates what the SAE Foundation, its partners and volunteers are able to achieve together. The event raises critical funds to help reach more students. Since its inception, SAE has delivered STEM education to over 5 million students globally.
"This year's event was amazing in terms of our volunteers, turnout and results," said Lori Gatmaitan, SAE Foundation Director. "But just as important is the impact it makes in our communities and what it means to those who will be able to experience SAE’s Kindergarten through College STEM education programs because of the dollars raised.”
SAE’s programs develop competency in math and science while enhancing the 21st century skills that all employers are seeking. The ability to stand in front of a group and confidently and eloquently speak is just one of those skills.
“Two students, Amanda Knutson and Aliyah Jackson, 7th graders at Emerson Elementary in Detroit, participated in SAE International’s most recently released program on Cybersecurity. They welcomed the audience and opened the evening. Most kids wouldn’t be able to do that in 7th grade,” said Gatmaitan.
Nissan’s chief performance officer, José Muñoz, was honored at the event with the SAE Foundation Industry Leadership Award. Other honorees included Bruce Aubin who received the Ableson Award for Visionary Leadership, two SAE Foundation/DENSO Young Industry Leadership Awardees, Angela Martin from Caterpillar, and Patrick Miller from Faurecia, and AVL North America presented the FCA Foundation with the Gordon Millar Award.
Other highlights of the evening included a live interview with John McElroy, host of Autoline.tv and José Muñoz. The interview is expected to air in the Detroit market on Sunday July 8 on WTVS at 10:30am.
