Virtual Speech Language Pathologists Help Curb California Teacher Shortages
QUARTZ HILL, Calif. (PRWEB) June 01, 2018 -- Proximity Learning Inc. and Westside Union School District (WUSD) are proud to announce a partnership to provide virtual Speech Language Pathologists (SLP). Searching for the right speech pathologist for your students is a challenging task in the current job market. The search itself is costly for districts and locating someone with the right skills requires an intensive recruiting process. For WUSD, this task became next to impossible as the number of applicants for the job dropped starkly to nearly zero as the school year was ready to commence.
When facing the possibility of reduced services for students with the highest need, the district adopted new measures to reconcile this issue. During an administrative conference district administration was introduced to a solution that hundreds of districts in an analogous situation were using, virtual K-12 teachers. Without hesitation the administrative team discussed this with the school board and decided to execute a plan to secure teachers.
Students in two of their elementary schools now work virtually with a Speech Language Pathologist. As the lead instructor for these students the virtual teachers managed each student’s learning plans, entered performance-based data into the district’s system. The SLP’s adjust their efforts based on individual student improvements and would schedule parent/teacher meetings to help parents stay involved in the process.
