UFG Insurance Announces Winners of its 2018 Worth It Scholarship
(PRWEB) May 31, 2018 -- United Fire Group, Inc. (UFG) recently announced the five students selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship as part of its Worth It distracted driving awareness program. The winners were selected based on their original essay explaining why they believe life is worth it, and distracted driving is not.
Emily Armstrong, Birmingham, Alabama
Alexis Bohr, Calmar, Iowa
Taylor Costello, Cashton, Wisconsin
Samuel Dreiling, Gorham, Kansas
Selina Schillig, Oroville, California
The scholarship program is in its first year and was created when the Worth It program was introduced in October 2017. It is open to any high school senior or graduate who plans to enroll or current undergraduate student who is already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year.
Mike Sheeley, UFG vice president, corporate marketing, says the company received more than 160 submissions from students across the country.
“We were overwhelmed by the response, particularly since this is the scholarship program’s first year, which tells us our Worth It message is getting out to teenagers in every corner of the country,” said Sheeley. “We were originally planning to award three $1,000 scholarships, but after seeing the response from students, we revised the program to increase the number of scholarships to five.”
Submissions for the 2019-2020 school year will be accepted beginning October 1, 2018, via the Worth It website scholarship page.
