American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Announces New Officers
WAUSAU, Wis. (PRWEB) May 31, 2018 -- Eric F. Bernstein, MD, MSE, was introduced as President of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) at the Annual Conference on April 13, 2018. ASLMS is the world's largest professional organization dedicated to promoting research, education and high standards of clinical care in the field of medical laser and energy-based applications.
"I thank the membership for their vote of confidence in me," said Bernstein. "I know this will be a great year. Plans are well underway for an excellent conference in 2019 in Denver. We are a diverse group of clinicians, scientists and industry representatives who get together in one place to advance the use of lasers and energy-based devices in medicine. Our focus this year will be strengthening collaboration, internationally and across specialties, while enhancing participation of young members.
Dr. Bernstein received his B.S. from Duke University, summa cum laude with distinction in his major, and his M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine, where he served as banner bearer and class president, and an M.S.E. in management of technology from the Engineering School at University of Pennsylvania, co-administered by the Wharton School. Following fellowships with the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health and Hahnemann University, he joined Jefferson Medical College, where he directed a research photobiology laboratory and served as the first director of the Laser Surgery Center. Dr. Bernstein holds 14 U.S. and numerous international patents, has authored over 100 scientific publications and has given more than 300 presentations worldwide.
Dr. Bernstein succeeds Mathew M. Avram, MD, JD, who now serves as the Society’s Past President. The 2018-19 ASLMS Executive Committee also includes Thomas Rohrer, MD, elected as Vice President, President-Elect Dieter Manstein, MD, PhD, Secretary Suzanne L. Kilmer, MD, Treasurer E. Victor Ross, MD and Historian J. Stuart Nelson, MD, PhD.
Other newly elected board positions include Board Representatives for Laser Surgery Murad Alam, MD, MSCI, MBA and Jill Waibel, MD; and Board Representative - Laser Medicine, Henry Chan, MD, PhD, FRCP. Patricia Owens, RN, MHA, CMLS, CNOR, was also appointed to the position of Director of Safety-Elect.
