Commsignia Announces New C-V2X Roadside and Onboard Unit Product Line, Paving the Way for 5G-enabled Self-Driving Cars
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (PRWEB) June 05, 2018 -- In efforts to support the current Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) and emerging 5G ecosystem, as well as roadside safety, Commsignia, a leader in the research, development and supply of V2X connectivity and collaborative systems for automotive, introduced today its new roadside units (RSUs) and onboard units (OBUs), which feature C-V2X direct communication technology. Building on the success of its existing ITS-RS4 and ITS-OB4 platforms, the new ITS-RS4-C and ITS-OB4-C will utilize the Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset solution, which is based on 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 14, for radio communication. Available as stand-alone products, or with dedicated short-range communication (DSRC/ITS-G5) configurations, the new ITS-RS4-C and ITS-OB4-C platforms are expected to sample in Q4 of this year and will be shipped with the top-quality, automotive-grade V2X software stack and application platform first launched in the preceding products. The automotive-grade V2X software stack and application platform is also available for separate licensing to OEM and Tier-1s globally.
The ITS-RS4-C and ITS-OB4-C are designed to allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier-1 suppliers worldwide to enable application developers to implement custom use-cases.
With a cooperative V2X platform like the new ITS-RS4-C and ITS-OB4-C, vehicles will have the opportunity to communicate with each other and with their surroundings, further enhancing onboard and roadside safety.
Earlier this year, Commsignia introduced the ITS-RS4 roadside infrastructure platform, which is designed to allow self-driving cars to “see around the corner.” Among other deployments, Commsignia provided V2X RSUs to Las Vegas to support of Lyft and Navya self-driving cars operating in the city. The infrastructure was essential in providing a first stepping stone to connect cars with smart infrastructure to allow remote sensors, such as traffic cameras, traffic light timing information and other sensor data, to be transmitted to the vehicles.
Commsignia products are known for their modularity, robust built-in security and compliance with standards, as well as for providing low-latency with low central processing unit (CPU) consumption to aid in reducing hardware production costs for customers. Additionally, the Commsignia ITS-OB4 is the world’s first OBU to be certified by the prestigious OmniAir Consortium in the U.S.
“We are very proud to be among the first companies to design and launch C-V2X RSUs and OBUs that feature both C-V2X and DSRC/ITS-G5 direct communication modes,” said Jozsef Kovacs, CEO of Commsignia. “Offering our customers a flexible solution enables them to validate and develop C-V2X-based solutions. This launch gives us global market coverage in terms of radio technology and allows us to cater to all end customers regardless of their preference on the communication medium, leaving the decision on the technology options with them.”
“Commsignia is identified as one of the leading vendors in the ITS and connected car space and we are excited to work with them integrating our Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset solution in their products,” said Nakul Duggal, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Qualcomm Technologies believes that V2X is a valuable input to foster safer driving, as well as a necessary building block for autonomous vehicles. We believe that C-V2X is the best technology to meet existing and evolving requirements, including how 5G will further support connected and autonomous vehicles.”
