Sunshine Coast Health Centre Announces New Post on Models of Addiction and Treatment of Drugs and Alcohol
CALGARY, Alta. (PRWEB) June 13, 2018 -- Sunshine Coast Health Centre, one of the top programs in Canada for alcohol treatment and drug rehab, is proud to announce a new post to the blog of Canada Drug Rehab, a public service website produced by Sunshine Coast. The post focuses on "Models of Addiction" and how they have evolved over time, including the non 12 step methodology used by Sunshine Coast and based on the work of Viktor Frankl.
“The CDR blog is increasingly the go-to place for quick information on important topics in addiction,” explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. “We're announcing this important post on the various models of addiction which will help educate lay people and help them to choose a methodology that will work for them.”
To view the updated page on models of addiction, visit https://www.canadadrugrehab.ca/blog/addiction-treatment-withdrawal/evolution-addiction-models/. The post overviews in a historical fashion various models of addiction, starting with the "moral model" in which drug or alcohol addiction was seen as a moral failure. Over time, other models such as the 12 step model popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous emerged. (For more information on the non 12 step methodology, please see https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/non-12-step/). Finally the post concludes with a discussion of neurological and choice models of addiction that see a blend between "nature" and "nurture," between genetic predisposition, social factors, and individual psychology in explaining who gets addicted, to what, and why. Understanding these models of addiction is a good first step towards choosing a drug rehab and/or alcohol treatment program whether in Vancouver or Toronto, Ottawa or Victoria.
Journalists, bloggers, and others who have interest in these topics are urged to visit the blog and then reach out to Sunshine Coast for interview and spokesperson opportunities.
