Utah’s Birthday Gift for America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026: George Washington Museum of American History to be Largest in Western U.S. to Tour all 50 States
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) June 07, 2018 -- Today, in preparation for the United States turning 250 years old on July 4, 2026, artists, historians, celebrities, politicians, business leaders, parents, and students converge on the U.S. Capitol for the unveiling of Utah’s gift to the nation, the George Washington Museum of American History: a National tour of the 250 Greatest Moments of American History brought to life through music, art, and story; touring all 50 states before landing in its permanent home in Utah, where it will become the largest American History museum west of the Mississippi.
"Recently, PoliTech, a student group at Texas Tech University went around campus and asked three questions: “Who won the Civil War?”, “Who is our Vice President?” and “Who did we gain our independence from?” Students’ answers ranged from “the South?” for the first question to “I have no idea” for all three of them. However, when asked about the show Snookie starred in (“Jersey Shore”) or Brad Pitt’s marriage history, they answered correctly.
This lack of knowledge in American history is not limited to college students. Studies over the years show Americans of all ages fail to answer the most simple of questions. A 2008 study by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, which surveyed more than 2,500 Americans, found that only half of adults in the country could name the three branches of government. The 2014 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) report found that only 18 percent of 8th graders were proficient or above in U.S. History and only 23 percent in Civics."
“Now is the time for a Renaissance of art, music and story that will help unite the country and bring to life America’s History like never before. A team of world renown artists, historians, and musicians are being assembled to create and build a multimedia exhibition and museum of historical dimensions depicting 250 of the most character inspiring moments in the history of America,” shared Eric Dowdle, TV personality and world renowned Artist, and the founder of the George Washington Museum of American History.
Joining Eric as Chief Historian is former federal special agent, American historian, and author, Tim Ballard. “Our founding Fathers and Mothers were people of character who believed in the ideals of Freedom. As Chief Historian, I am assembling a team of historians that will help preserve and educate people on the story of this great Nation from its earliest roots to the present day. We are also opening this up to YOU, the public, to submit a video and tell us what important story YOU think should be in 250 Greatest Moments in American History, and how it should be brought to life through art, music, and story. Go to http://www.georgewashingtonmuseum.org to submit your video today.”
Serving as Chief Composer is gifted pianist, composer, & producer, Paul Cardall. Paul shares, “My role as Chief Composer will be to lead a team of gifted musicians to capture through original music the emotional integrity, spiritual depth, tragedy, triumph, heroism, and overall beauty of the American Story and those who struggled to build a God fearing nation with liberty and justice for all. Hans Christian Anderson said, “Where words fail, music speaks.”
Today’s announcement was made at the US Capitol in Washington D.C. where participants included Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, and Utah Representatives Rob Bishop, Chris Stewart, John Curtis, and Mia Love. Additional attendees include representatives from the USA250 organization, The National Coalition of History, American Battlefield Trust, Daughters of The American Revolution, and others.
As the resting place for the 250 Greatest Moments of American History, The George Washington Museum of American History will bring the rich history of America typically found in the east to the west, to unite, educate and inspire. Many east coast families and students have access to the rich American history in the eastern United States, but not so many families in the western United States. The opening of the George Washington Museum of American History will help save a family of 4 in the western United States over $900 in air fare, to experience and to instill a love of American history closer to home and for many, right in their backyard.
“This National Tour and museum allows greater access to the history and stories that built the founders dream of America,” states Eric Dowdle. “In less time than it took George Washington to drive a buggy from Mt. Vernon to D.C. in 1776, a whole generation of children and families will commute to this new venue and experience American History in a new way.”
