Edgenuity Releases New American Sign Language Courses
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (PRWEB) June 12, 2018 -- Edgenuity, a leading provider of online curriculum and instructional services for the K-12 market, has announced it will release new American Sign Language (ASL) courses this fall. The courses, created by eDynamic Learning, will comprise a full year of ASL over two one-semester offerings, and will count toward a foreign language credit in at least 30 states.
American Sign Language is the third most commonly used language in North America, as well as the predominant sign language of Deaf communities. The courses will explore the complexities of communicating in ASL, including signs made with the hands, facial expressions and body postures. The courses will also introduce students to the language, grammar and phonology of ASL, and will explore the social beliefs, traditions, history, values and communities of Deaf culture.
“ASL is a course that has been highly sought after by schools and districts, and we are thrilled to make it available this fall,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. “Learning languages such as ASL can boost cognition, hone communication skills and encourage abstract thinking. Through our partnership with eDynamic Learning, Edgenuity has been able to connect students with more of these opportunities to excel than ever before.”
In February 2018, Edgenuity announced a partnership with eDynamic Learning to add more than 50 career and general elective courses to the Edgenuity platform. Middle and high school students using Edgenuity can engage in a range of interests and skills—from Journalism to Forensic Science—through courses provided by eDynamic Learning, North America’s largest provider of career and elective courses.
