“It was heartwarming to see not only how empowering this was for the mothers involved but also how much their children enjoyed the event. ” said Women of Global Change Atlanta Chapter President Celeste Giordano

At the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter, mothers and their children were treated to a unique opportunity on May 8th, leading up to Mother’s Day. As a break from the everyday, they dined on fine linens provided by Oakwood Occasions and Lanier Tent Rental. They ate an amazing meal donated by Cabaki’s catering and Joan Williams which consisted of brisket, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and a beautiful spinach salad with strawberries and apples. Dessert was a chocolate pudding with marshmallows and amazing cupcakes donated by Special Kneads and Treats Bakery. Dunkin Donuts donated the coffee and donuts for breakfast the next morning.

This was all part of an event with a unique mission, to prepare women at the shelter for job interviews. Women got to shop for business and casual clothes, accessories, and personal care items from Trust Your Journey, Victoria Secrets, doTerra Oils, Premier Jewelry, and Navva Skin so they will look sharp as they interview for jobs. Meanwhile, their children made crafts and flower bouquets to present to their moms for Mother’s Day. The arts and crafts project was sponsored by Aerie Lane DIY Arts and Crafts and the beautiful flowers were donated by a local Kroger grocery store.

The Women of Global Change Atlanta Chapter was behind this service project, working in coordination with Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter, a nonprofit shelter that provides services for homeless children and their mothers in Buford, GA.

“It was heartwarming to see not only how empowering this was for the mothers involved but also how much their children enjoyed the event. We could not have accomplished any of this if it weren’t for the outstanding committee members, volunteers, and sponsors,” said Women of Global Change Atlanta Chapter President Celeste Giordano.
