Book Passage -- the Bay Area’s liveliest independent bookstore -- announced today that registration is open for the 27th edition of its world-famous Travel Writers and Photographers Conference, set to take place from August 9-12 in Corte Madera California. The conference has an extraordinary reputation among publishers, editors, and writers. Alumni have published books, articles, and photos—many as the direct result of lessons learned and contacts made at the conference.
The collegial atmosphere of this four-day conference attracts participants and faculty from all over the world, such as legendary travel writer, Tim Cahill, and travel guide mavens including Pauline Frommer from Frommer Guides and Nikki Ioakimedes from Moon Travel Guides. Photography faculty staff includes renowned expedition photographer Gordon Wiltsie.
In addition, the conference offers participants many opportunities for formal and informal meetings with faculty during lunches and evening presentations. Avalon Travel, publisher of Rick Steves, Moon Travel Guides, Road Trip USA, and Andy Steves, will host a special reception for faculty and participants on the evening of Saturday, August 11.
“Every summer some magic happens at Book Passage,” says acclaimed National Geographic Traveler and BBC Travel writer, Don George. “ For four days in August, some of the best travel writers, editors, photographers, publishers, and agents in the world convene in Corte Madera to share the art and heart of the work they love at the Book Passage Travel Writers & Photographers Conference”.
