New Educational Webinar on Lupus Anticoagulant Testing Solutions Hosted by Diagnostica Stago
(PRWEB) July 10, 2018 -- Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder with thrombotic symptoms, diagnosed based on both clinical and laboratory criteria. Compared to solid phase assays, positive lupus anticoagulant (LA) clotting assays are often the best predictors of thrombotic risk in APS. Laboratory testing for APS, along with accurate data reporting is intimidating for newcomers, but international clinical consensus guidelines help new and current users standardize testing methodologies and result reporting.
Multiple anticoagulant therapies and factor deficiencies can interfere with test reporting. Such errors can be partially alleviated by careful selection of testing methodologies. In addition, the laboratory must work with clinicians to ensure samples from patients on certain anticoagulants are not submitted for lupus anticoagulant testing. One laboratory's experience optimizing LA testing and APS reporting will be discussed, with real-life cases reviewed.
Presented at the Stago EdVantage Virtual University Virtual Event, the webinar will share findings from APS case studies showing common and rare LA interferences. The speaker will be Dr. Geoffrey D. Wool, an assistant professor in the department of pathology at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Aside from his role as an assistant professor in the department of pathology, Wool is interim director of the blood bank and associate director of the coagulation laboratory. He received his medical and doctorate degrees from the University of Chicago, before completing his fellowship in transfusion medicine at the University of Chicago and fellowship in hematopathology at University of California San Francisco.
LabRoots will host the event August 8, 2018, beginning at 8 a.m. PDT, 11 a.m. EDT. To learn more about this webinar, discover the continuing education credits offered, or to register for free, click here.
