Summer College Prep Program is Preparing Students from 6th through 12th Grade
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) June 27, 2018 -- SuperCamp, a leading learning, leadership and life skills college prep summer camp, is advocating that students who begin their college prep training in high school are waiting too long and will be well behind other college candidates who start the process in middle school.
SuperCamp’s college prep philosophy is that middle school students need to begin developing such skills as test-taking, studying, creative writing, and critical thinking so they’re able to achieve a solid GPA by their freshman year in high school. This timeframe also puts high school juniors and incoming seniors in a strong position for their standardized tests and to write a compelling college essay.
According to SuperCamp, another component of college prep that should begin in middle school or early in high school at the latest is volunteer work or community service. At SuperCamp, students are encouraged through various goal-setting exercises to find their passion, which may lead to a meaningful form of volunteerism. Often, a student’s cause-related work forms the basis of their college essay.
The second aspect of college prep addressed in SuperCamp’s summer programs is success in and after college. The summer program focuses on four skills that the Partnership for 21st Century Skills call essential for college and career success. These skills are critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.
“It’s incumbent upon students to develop their college-prep skills over the seven years of middle school and high school,” says SuperCamp president and co-founder, Bobbi DePorter. “If they aren’t able to do so in one or more of these areas in the classroom, they must turn elsewhere. And that’s what SuperCamp is here to do.”
