More Than a Dozen Independence Day Events Planned in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana
SHREVEPORT, La. (PRWEB) June 28, 2018 -- More than a dozen major Independence Day events are planned in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana for 2018. The largest annual event held on July 4 in Shreveport-Bossier is the KTBS 3 Independence Day Festival, which will be bigger than ever in 2018 to celebrate the festival’s 10th year. This year’s festival will take place, 12-10 p.m., in downtown Shreveport’s Festival Plaza. The festival will include a B-52 flyover from Barksdale Air Force Base at 5:50 p.m., a performance by platinum-selling country artists Montgomery Gentry at 8:05 p.m., and a fireworks extravaganza at 9:20 p.m. Admission is free.
Another popular Independence Day event held annually in Shreveport-Bossier is the Sportspectrum Firecracker 5K Race for Research. This patriotic run through Shreveport’s historic Highland neighborhood attracts as many as 4,000 runners annually, many of whom are patriotically dressed for the run. With live music, post-run refreshments, and big cash prizes, the Firecracker 5K is one of the largest runs in North Louisiana. Race registration is $12-$40.
Harrah’s Louisiana Downs has established an unusual Independence Day tradition in recent years with their popular Exotic Animal Races. Beginning at 12 p.m., Harrah’s Louisiana Downs will feature exotic animal races including ostriches and camels ridden by professional jockeys. There will also be a kids’ zone at the track including inflatables, face painting, and food trucks. An exciting program of Thoroughbred racing will begin at 3:15 p.m. Admission is free.
Local craft breweries are also getting in on the Independence Day fun. Great Raft Brewing in Shreveport will feature live music beginning at 12 p.m., a hot dog-eating contest at 4 p.m., a special beer release, local artists and vendors, the Southern Fork food truck, and more during their annual “Independents” Day Party. Red River Brewing Company will host its annual Red, White, and Brew Party, 5-9 p.m., with discounts for military and anyone wearing red, white, and blue. There will also be food specials from Fat Calf Boucherie, free popsicles for kids, and more.
