Center for Autism and Related Disorders and Dynamic Kids Explore the Balance between Play and Technology in the Autism Community
HARTSDALE, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 02, 2018 -- Center for Autism and Related Disorders’ (CARD) location in Hartsdale, NY, is pleased to have collaborated with Dynamic Kids for its June Regional Parent Roundtable, featuring Dynamic Kids’ executive director Robbie Levy as a special guest speaker. CARD Hartsdale hosts Regional Parent Roundtable events to act as a resource and community hub for its current roster of families, as well as for prospective families looking for services and supports in the autism community.
In her presentation, ”Balancing Play and Technology,” Ms. Levy described the importance of play in the development of our human sensory systems and how play can help children learn to describe their world better, assist in overcoming their fears, and promote healthy social interactions. Whereas the use of technology primarily focuses on just two sensory systems (visual and auditory), play incorporates all seven (visual, auditory, tactile, vestibular, proprioceptive, olfactory, and gustatory).
“Robbie’s presentation was very informative and made us aware of the impact both play and technology have on the growth of our children,” said Christine D. Antunes, community outreach expert for CARD Hartsdale. “We are eager to collaborate with Dynamic Kids again in the future with presentations on sensory-related topics that are so important not only to our research but, also, the development of our community.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one in every 59 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. To learn more about autism or to find an event near you, visit the events tab on CARD’s website.
