Boston Children’s Museum and Artisan’s Asylum Announce Mini Maker Faire Partnership
BOSTON (PRWEB) July 17, 2018 -- Boston Children’s Museum and Artisan’s Asylum are excited to announce their partnership for the Boston Mini Maker Faire. This year’s event will expand to two days and will be held on October 6th & 7th, 2018, inside and outside Boston Children’s Museum on Fort Point Channel.
“We are thrilled that Artisan’s Asylum, a nationally known hub of creativity and making, is joining Boston Children’s Museum as a partner for the 2018 Boston Mini Maker Faire, which is sure to be the best one yet,” said Melissa Higgins, Senior Director of STEAM at the Museum.
Artisan’s Asylum came into existence in early 2010 as a collective of makers who wanted to share tools and resources. As it grew, Artisan’s Asylum expanded into a 40,000 square foot non-profit community workshop in Somerville, Massachusetts with a mission to support and promote the teaching, learning, and practice of fabrication.
“Artisan’s Asylum is excited to be a featured collaborator and promoter of the Maker Faire,” said Ted Sirota, Board of Directors at Artisan’s Asylum. “Partnering with Boston Children’s Museum is incredibly exciting for us. I often compare Artisan’s Asylum to the Museum, only with flame-throwers and bigger kids.”
Artisan’s Asylum became involved with the Museum in 2017, when a few members represented the organization with a booth featuring interactive activities at the Maker Faire. In 2017, over 100 makers participated, sharing their science, technology, craft, art, performance, and music creations with over 2,000 visitors. This year, Artisan’s Asylum will present a display with more interactive activities designed by its prominent members, as well as make jaw-dropping spectacle content specific to the event.
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and support this community of makers and their inventive spirit.
The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2018 celebrated its thirteenth annual show with some 900 makers and 90,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in six years to 900+ makers and 95,000 attendees. Forty larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few—and over 170 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced in the United States and 40 other countries around the world.
Boston Mini Maker Faire is independently organized by Boston Children’s Museum and operated under license from Maker Media, Inc.
