The Retreat at Pacifica Graduate Institute Hosted 2018 Conference, Anticipates Co-Hosting 2019 Conference "Art and Psyche: The Illuminated Imagination" with UCSB
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (PRWEB) July 18, 2018 -- The Retreat at Pacifica Graduate Institute successfully hosted its sold-out 2018 Conference entitled, “Trauma and Transcendence” on June 22-24 at the Pacifica’s Ladera Lane Campus. The event featured world-renowned authors, clinicians, educators, and Jungian analysts whose research explores the effects of trauma, often through a depth psychological lens, and the possibilities for healing through spiritual or transcendent experiences.
The presenters included Ann Belford Ulanov, Ph.D., L.H.D., New York Jungian analyst; Tanya Marie Luhrmann, Ph.D., Watkins University Professor in the Stanford Anthropology Department; Ann Taves, Ph.D., Professor of Religious Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara; Polly Young-Eisendrath, Ph.D., Jungian analyst, psychologist, and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at The University of Vermont; Donald Kalsched, Ph.D., Jungian psychoanalyst, clinical psychologist, and senior faculty member and supervisor with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts; and Craig E. Stephenson, Ph.D., Director of Training for the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in New York City.
The conference also featured presentations by Pacifica faculty member Lionel Corbett, M.D., a Jungian analyst trained in medicine and psychiatry in England, as well as Joseph Cambray, Ph.D., Jungian analyst and President and CEO of Pacifica Graduate Institute.

The Retreat at Pacifica’s next conference is “Art and Psyche: The Illuminated Imagination,” a four-day conference taking place April 4-7, 2019 at the University of California, Santa Barbara’s University Center (UCEN) and Art, Design & Architecture Museum. The conference is designed to engage the imaginative processes of psychotherapists of all kinds alongside members of the art community in order to creatively expand attendees’ understanding of depth psychology. It will also feature an exhibition of C.G. Jung’s Red Book and select Black Books. The conference is co-sponsored by The Art and Psyche Working Group; Pacifica Graduate Institute; Art, Design & Architecture Museum, University of California, Santa Barbara; The Foundation of the Works of C.G. Jung (Zurich); The Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism (ARAS); and The International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP).
