'Phoenix Tools 4 School' Returns to Travis L. Williams Post 65
HeroZona Foundation, APS, Crescent Crown and More to Host Backpack and Supplies Giveaway
PHOENIX, July 19, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Arizona's largest backpack and school supply giveaway event, Phoenix Tools 4 School, is returning to the Travis L. Williams American Legion Post 65 (1624 E. Broadway Rd.) on Saturday, July 23 from 7 to 9 a.m. for a drive-thru experience.
The experience, celebrating its 10th year, is an effort between the HeroZona Foundation, APS, Crescent Crown and more community partners to support local families with the costs associated with returning to school, by providing free school supplies and a backpack for every K-8th grader.
"Valley families are strained by inflation, the economy, and other costs of returning to life as usual," said Alan "AP" Powell, Chairman of AP & Associates – Strategic Alliances, U.S. Army Desert-Storm Veteran, and founder of HeroZona. "We are honored to continue providing much-needed backpacks and top-quality school supplies so kids can go back to the classroom ready to learn and thrive."
In just nine years, the Phoenix Tools 4 School annual event has impacted more than 85,000 students and family members by providing them with supplies needed for their education, such as bookbags, notebooks, writing utensils, and more. Pre-coronavirus, the Tools 4 School event also hosted a carnival and workshops from Maricopa Community Colleges and Arizona State University (ASU) for 7th and 8th-grade students to prepare them on their path to higher education.
The event is open to the public and expected to draw thousands of families. Tools 4 School is open to all students ages kindergarten through 8th grade. Supplies are limited, and backpacks will be distributed on a first come first serve basis while supplies last. People can preregister at HeroZona.org. Attendees are encouraged to show up early and students must be present to receive their backpacks and supplies.
This year's event is supported by APS, Crescent Crown Distributing, the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, ASU, Sonoran Technology, Phoenix Police Department, Phoenix Fire Department, Andrew and Amy Cohn, American Legion Department of Arizona, VAN Chevrolet, VAN GMC/Buick, KDL Services, Cox Communications, Equality Health Foundation, Helios Education Foundation, Roosevelt School District #66, Laveen School District, Arizona State 7th Congressional District Representative Ruben Gallego, Arizona State District 27 Representative Reginald Bolding, Maricopa County District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo, Phoenix City Council District 8 Vice Mayor Carlos Garcia, State Forty-Eight Foundation, The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center, PHX SkyHarbor Airport, African American Christian Clergy Coalition, Dollar Days, Mega 104.3, 101.1 The Bounce, Prensa Arizona, and the Arizona Informant.
