Program made possible by TikTok makes entry-level roles in cybersecurity more accessible to women and minorities

“Individuals from underserved communities will be able to receive training for in-demand security roles through this innovative program,” said Beverly Benson, Executive Director at Cyversity.

Cyversity, a 501(c)3 non-profit association dedicated to the academic and professional success of minority cybersecurity students and professionals, today announced its partnership with TikTok to create a scholarship program to help women, minorities, and other under-represented start or advance their career in the cybersecurity industry.

The scholarship offers Cyversity members the choice of 1 of 3 cybersecurity cohorts: Application Security, Network Security, or Cloud Security. Training is provided by industry leaders Security Innovation, EC-Council, and Cloud Security Alliance, respectively. All training is mapped to the NICE framework from NIST. Scholarship recipients will also be enrolled in Cyversity’s mentorship program and have access to resume writing workshops, mock interviews, and private sessions with TikTok cybersecurity professionals. Recipients will also qualify for potential internship or full-time opportunities within TikTok, upon completion of their training.

TikTok and Cyversity share the goal of promoting diversity within the cybersecurity industry, ensuring individuals from all backgrounds are equipped for the exciting and lucrative career opportunities it offers. With more than1.8 million job openings worldwide, the industry is keen to develop new, innovative talent to continue protecting consumer, business, and government data.

"We believe it's important to help bring representation into the cybersecurity industry through programs designed to diversify, educate, and empower," TikTok said in a blog post. "Whether connecting Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students to the cybersecurity job of their dreams or creating a new scholarship program through Cyversity, we're committed to nurturing next-generation talent and helping under-represented minorities start or advance their career."

“TikTok is helping us tackle the need for more cybersecurity professionals, specifically in the disproportionate underrepresentation of women and minority populations,” said Beverly Benson, Executive Director at Cyversity. “Individuals from underserved communities will be able to receive training for in-demand security roles through this innovative program.”
