As the 20th CPC National Congress concluded in Beijing, CGTN America has launched a special program "New Journey: China and the World", examining the path China has traversed and the road ahead.
The show featured top United Nations officials, former ambassadors and analysts who expanded on China's goals and aspirations.
UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, talked about China's achievement of ending extreme poverty. UN Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, explained how much China has accomplished regarding biodiversity and conservation.
Former Chilean ambassador Jorge Heine emphasized China's role in assisting its Latin American partners embark on modernization as part of Beijing's Global Development Initiative.
Chas Freeman, the principal U.S. interpreter when U.S. President Nixon made his historic trip to China in 1972, reminisced about China's rapid progress and gave his perspective on the current relationship between Washington and Beijing, and how China's global role has evolved.
Chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, Jeff Greene, said that he is impressed by the development he has seen in China. Mayor of Steilacoom, Washington State, Dick Muri and other public figures in the state offered their friendship and warm wishes to the Chinese people on the occasion of their new journey.
Renowned China expert, Robert Kuhn, environmental adviser to former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Thomas Gehl, Director of the Center for Chinese-Mexican Studies at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Enrique Dussel Peters, and CEO of the Beijing Future Innovation Center, Changhua Wu, joined the panel discussion.
The guests talked about China's role in advancing global education, improving healthcare, fighting climate change and practicing sustainable development. Another key tenet discussed was China's Global Security Initiative that upholds true multilateralism. The message was: the shared destiny of humanity is inextricably linked to our actions and China is ready to work for a more sustainable, productive and collaborative world.
