When Sherrie Ligori was a third-grade school teacher at Witter Elementary School in Tampa, Fla., 22 years ago, she saw firsthand how to bring joy to children through a county-run program called “Sincerely Santa”. The program delivered toys to low-income children in need.
While no longer teaching with the school district, Ligori and her husband of 24 years, local attorney Christopher Ligori of Christopher Ligori & Associates, decided to continue the tradition. They worked together to create a new program to give back to the community where they live and work.
Chris and Sherrie worked closely with the administration at the Witter school. Each year, they now choose 100 children from pre-school through 5th grade, provide bus transportation and $150 Target gift cards to spend at the University Plaza Street store location. This year, they blocked off several hours on Dec. 15, so the students could purchase new outfits, shoes and toys of their choice. The children also had the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and have their photos taken as a keepsake.
“Knowing that we can make a difference in their lives while sharing the experience with them motivates us to continue on our path of giving,” said Ligori, who has been sponsoring this event with Sherrie and their two daughters. “Their joy is contagious, and we’re very grateful to be part of it.”
“This has been an incredible opportunity, not just for the kids, but for us,” said Sherrie, who has spearheaded the event for seven consecutive years. “To be able to bring joy to these children each season, and see their little faces light up, is what Christmas is all about.”
In addition to the gift card donations, Chris and Sherrie also helped sponsor and participated in “A Christmas Miracle on Nebraska Avenue” on Dec. 17.
Along with Bishop M.B. Jefferson and his ministry, Chris and Sherrie Ligori provided love and compassion through donating bicycles, electronics, scooters, and more to those less fortunate, including veterans, underprivileged children, and seniors.
“When Christopher Ligori acted as my attorney in 2012, I immediately saw that he was family-oriented and not just focused on the case. He made it about the people,” said Joann Henry-Smith of Deeper Life Christian Church. “He and Sherrie have a genuine love for people.”
She continued, “Without partners such as Chris Ligori and his family joining us, many would go lacking during the holiday season. Chris and Sherrie don’t just send people out to do the work. They are fully engaged with the biggest hearts, and they come out to serve all year—not just for the holidays.”
