PHOENIX, April 12, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- WeatheRate, an independent weather research company, today announced it has certified ten out of 11 NBC-owned stations in the United States as the "Most Accurate" local weather forecasters in their respective markets. The stations that received the "Most Accurate" forecasting certification for 2022 include: WNBC in New York, KNBC in Los Angeles, WMAQ in Chicago, WCAU in Philadelphia, KNTV in San Francisco-Bay Area, KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth, WTVJ in South Florida, WBTS in Boston, KNSD in San Diego and WVIT in Hartford, CT.
"NBCUniversal Local's stations from coast to coast have once again earned our seal of approval for their forecasting acumen. Their commitment to delivering accurate forecasts has yielded proven results, and viewers can trust their local NBC & Telemundo station weather team to get the forecast right more often than the others," said Bruce Fixman, Founder and President, WeatheRate.
Today's announcement comes on the heels of 21 Telemundo owned stations receiving WeatheRate's "Most Accurate" forecasting certification for 2021. Together, the NBC and Telemundo owned stations are changing the way that weather forecasts and current weather conditions are presented to all audiences with award-winning, state-of-the-art weather technology. NBCUniversal Local, the division that is home to 43 NBC/Telemundo stations, six Regional Sports Networks and three multicast networks, owns the largest privately owned network of cutting edge fixed and mobile weather radars in the country.
Using a business model similar to J.D. Power and Associates, WeatheRate conducts independent research for a 52-week period, and reviews stations' forecasts of local conditions including high and low temperatures, timing and amount of precipitation, strong wind and dense fog, as well as severe weather events including thunderstorms. At the end of each WeatheRating review period, WeatheRate offers its seal of approval only to the most accurate TV station in each market.
