"This phase enables us to accelerate a dual-use commercial 5G cybersecurity solution for the DoD and industries currently leveraging 5G networks for manufacturing, industrial automation, transportation, agriculture, and education," said Dr. Ulrich Lang, CEO of ObjectSecurity.
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) March 15, 2023
ObjectSecurity LLC, a leader in solving complex, evolving defense and industrial cybersecurity and supply chain risk challenges, today announced that it was awarded a $2 million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) for "characterizing 5G vulnerabilities in an expeditionary environment".
The grant will help fund the development of a rugged, portable device that will automatically detect 5G networks, then characterize the devices and analyze the network for cybersecurity vulnerabilities. The dual-use solution will make it possible to advance 5G cybersecurity technology solutions for national security and private 5G networks deployed globally.
This award continues the SBIR Phase I project, where ObjectSecurity successfully developed a working prototype and demonstrated scanning and monitoring of 5G devices, followed by real-time network cybersecurity vulnerability analysis. The automated technology uses state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) models for deep learning and the latest software-defined radio technology to efficiently monitor the 5G spectrum and effectively classify weaknesses in the network that an attacker could exploit.
"ObjectSecurity is appreciative of the ONR recognition of our accomplishments in advancing the protection of 5G networks with this SBIR Phase II award which underscores the strength of our novel approach to advance the security of our warfighters. This phase also enables us to accelerate a dual-use commercial 5G cybersecurity solution for the DoD and industries currently leveraging 5G networks for manufacturing, industrial automation, transportation, agriculture, and education," said Dr. Ulrich Lang, CEO of ObjectSecurity.
"Complete and accurate 5G cybersecurity monitoring and vulnerability assessment will proactively prevent disaster from striking 5G networks. 5G is such an integral component of our global future, it is important that we stay ahead of the curve with cyber-informed engineering (CIE) to protect the environments that will rely on 5G communications", said Drew Yenzer, ObjectSecurity senior hardware engineer.
