Discover an Innovative Treatment in the 2023 Webinar Series on Vascular Stabilization in Retina Health and Disease
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) May 24, 2023 -- Although clinical care has made significant strides, retinal diseases continue to be widespread and contribute to vision loss on a global scale. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) impacts around 11 million individuals in the United States and 196 million people worldwide. Another major cause of adult blindness is diabetic macular edema (DME), with nearly 20% of people with diabetes expected to develop DME.
Dr. William Li, President and Medical Director of the non-profit Angiogenesis Foundation, said, "Unstable blood vessels are now recognized to be a part of vision loss. Blood vessels have to be stable for their proper function in the eye."
Understanding the underlying mechanisms that maintain retinal health and identifying disruptions that lead to vision loss are crucial. In response, the Angiogenesis Foundation announced a 2023 webinar series on Vascular Stabilization in Retina Health and Disease, featuring renowned ophthalmologists Dr. Charles Wykoff and Dr. David Eichenbaum, who shared their expertise on the latest findings in retinal vascular stabilization and the crucial role of the Angiopoietin/Tie2 system, alongside the insights of an esteemed panel of experts.
Dr. Charles Wykoff, a globally recognized ophthalmologist, holds the position of managing partner at the Retina Consultants of Texas, as well as roles for the Retina Consultants of America and for the Blanton Eye Institute at Houston Methodist Hospital. His research interests cover angiogenesis, atrophic retinal diseases, retinal vascular diseases, as well as vitreoretinal surgical topics.
Dr. David Eichenbaum has a distinguished role as the Director of Research for the Retina Vitreous Associates of Florida. As a well-published researcher and seasoned clinician, he has led more than 70 clinical trials, primarily focusing on neovascular retinal diseases and pathologies. His comprehensive experience in the field positions him as an invaluable contributor to the webinar series.
An accomplished panel of experts, including Dr. Christina Weng of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, Dr. Nancy Holekamp of Pepose Vision Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, and Dr. Jennifer Lim of University of Illinois in Chicago, contributed their knowledge and experience to the series.
The webinar series offers clinicians valuable insights into the biology of the Ang-Tie signaling system, its function in vascular health and disease, and introduces VABYSMO (faricimab-svoa), an innovative treatment that is transforming the approach to retinal care.
The webinar series aims to increase awareness and provide essential information on retinal health and disease, ensuring the public remains well-informed about the critical role of vascular stabilization in preserving healthy vision. Access the webinar at scienceofang2.org.
This webinar was developed in collaboration with Genentech, a Member of the Roche Group.
