Synthetic Biology Company Huue Recognized as a 2023 Technology Pioneer by World Economic Forum

San Francisco, 23 June 2023 – Huue, a pioneer of sustainable bio-based dyes, was selected among hundreds of candidates to be one of the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers.
Huue is disrupting a nearly century old industry: dye manufacturing. Nearly all dyes today are synthetically made from petroleum and other toxic chemicals; instead of starting with toxic petrochemicals, Huue’s team engineers microbes to produce scalable bio-based colors without the harmful carbon and toxicity footprint. Huue’s mission is to culture colors for industries integral to a sustainable future: textiles, cosmetics and food and they are currently working with established brand and mill partners to bring to market their first product, indigo for denim.
The World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers are early-stage to growth-stage companies from around the world that are cultivating new technologies with a significant impact on business and society. Each year, the forum announces the top 100 most promising Technology Pioneers - companies that tackle critical societal issues such as climate change, healthcare and financial inclusion.
Huue joins an elite club of Technology Pioneers in 2023 whose alumni include Google, Airbnb, Palantir Technologies and Spotify. “We’re excited to welcome Huue to our 2023 cohort of Technology Pioneers,” said Verena Kuhn, Head of Innovator Communities at the World Economic Forum. “Huue and its fellow pioneers are at the forefront of innovation and disruption needed to help us solve the world's most pressing issues. As a Technology Pioneer, Huue CEO Michelle Zhu will be invited to engage with the World Economic Forum, working with global leaders to help address key industry and societal issues. Technology Pioneers will also be invited to join Forum events and discussions throughout the year, bringing together leading stakeholders from the public and private sector.
