New Industry Report Highlights Gaps and Areas for Innovation in Addiction Treatment

Key Findings
- The report identifies a significant disparity in funding for addiction treatment compared to other complex diseases. Notably, venture capital investment in addiction treatment remains disproportionately low, with cancer treatment receiving nearly 270 times more funding despite similar prevalence rates.
- Additionally, policy and provider support have not kept pace with the rising demand for addiction treatment. While advancements have been made, such as expanded access to opioid use disorder medications, comprehensive changes in reimbursement policies and increased investment in health information technology for behavioral health are still urgently needed.
