Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP (“CFM”), a leading investment management law firm, is pleased to announce that Frank J. Martin has joined the partnership as Partner and General Counsel at the firm. Frank’s practice focuses on business-oriented and practical advice stemming from his previous experience as General Counsel and President of a multi-billion-dollar, multi-strategy, global investment manager. In addition to his work as a hedge fund General Counsel and President, Frank served as a Lecturer at UC Berkeley School of Law. Frank created and taught Berkeley Law’s course on structuring, advising, and regulating hedge funds. Alongside his investment management work, Frank has served as a senior executive, board chair, and general counsel to non-profit and social impact organizations, including time as Interim Executive Director and Lecturer at Berkeley Law's East Bay Community Law Center, the law school’s largest clinical education program. At CFM, in addition to his work advising clients, Frank will serve as the firm’s General Counsel.

Ghufran Rizvi, COO of HC Global Fund Services said, “I’ve seen Frank’s legal talents up close as a colleague at Standard Pacific and now as a client of Cole-Frieman & Mallon. He is one the smartest and most practical lawyers with whom I have ever worked. He has deep knowledge in the alternative investment industry, having worked on multiple sides of the table, as the President & GC of a Hedge Fund (buy-side) and now as a Partner with a leading law firm (service-side).”

"We are delighted that Frank will be joining the partnership," said Managing Partner Bart Mallon. "Frank is a trusted legal and strategic adviser to senior executives in the asset management and social impact spaces. He finds a way to be both a lawyer’s lawyer and a practical business adviser; these are hallmarks of the attorneys at Cole-Frieman & Mallon.”

"Frank's practical fund experience makes him a valuable adviser to the clients we serve. His business knowledge adds to the richness and quality of service that Cole-Frieman & Mallon has set out to deliver," said Karl Cole-Frieman, also a Managing Partner at CFM. "Having Frank serve as our firm’s General Counsel in addition to his work on behalf of our clients tells you everything you need to know about how highly we think of his talents as a lawyer and adviser."

“I am grateful to be joining the partnership. The legal talent at CFM is exceptional. Working through complex legal issues for our clients with this team is intellectually challenging and deeply joyful for me,” said Frank J. Martin.
