WealthVest podcast interview delves into various macroeconomic trends that could lead to a no-landing economic scenario.
BOZEMAN, Mont., March 2, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- During a recent interview with WealthVest, a financial services marketing and wholesaling firm, Torsten Slok, Partner, and Chief Economist at Apollo, outlined his thoughts on the potential for a no-landing economic scenario and a delayed recession.
Appearing on WealthVest: The Weekly Bull & Bear podcast, hosted by Drew Dokken, in collaboration with Tim Pierotti, Chief Investment Officer at WealthVest, Slok discussed various macroeconomic trends, including recent employment numbers, the struggle to get inflation down to 2%, the housing marketing and how demographics will affect future growth as indicators of continued market uncertainty in the year ahead.
"I am coming to the conclusion that investors should be a bit more cautious on the market and on risks, meaning equity and credit, because it looks like we are going into a no-landing scenario where we need higher levels of interest rates before we get inflation all the way down to 2%," Slok said, during the podcast interview. "The bottom line is, we had an inflation problem in 2022 and, unfortunately, it looks like that inflation problem has not been resolved. So, what we should worry about is that the trading environment we had last year might be at risk of coming back, where the 60/40 portfolio will be more vulnerable with rates going up more and equities going down further."
A frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg and other media outlets, Slok has published numerous journal articles and reviews on economic and policy analysis. He joined Apollo in 2020. Previously, he worked at the OECD in Paris in the Money and Finance Division and the Structural Policy Analysis Division and worked for the IMF in the division responsible for writing the World Economic Outlook, as well as the division responsible for China, Hong Kong and Mongolia.
