Metro Detroit's 220 Merrill Restaurant Receives Prestigious Wine Spectator “Award of Excellence”
Birmingham, Mich. (PRWEB) August 17, 2016 -- 220 Merrill, the premiere dining destination in downtown Birmingham, has been honored by Wine Spectator magazine with the "2016 Award of Excellence" for their extensive and exceptional wine program. Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards honors the world’s best wine lists, and recognizes restaurants with diverse and well-chosen wine offerings that complement their cuisine as well as appeal to the palates of a wide-range of wine connoisseurs. This is 220 Merrill’s first Wine Spectator award.
Behind the restaurant’s award-winning wine program is Assistant General Manager & Director of Beverages Lance Sigler, who also holds the honor of Hour Detroit’s "Best Bartender of 2016". Sigler has acquired more than 200 of the most sought-after wines from around the world and carefully assembled 220 Merrill's list of offerings. Not only does the restaurant offer some of the finest selections, but they offer these bottles at the best prices in the area.
“It’s an honor to receive this recognition from Wine Spectator magazine,” said Sigler. “Our guests at 220 Merrill share our passion and knowledge for fine wines, which has driven us to assemble such a varied selection and offer it to our guests at exceptional pricing.”
Highly-desired wines and champagnes can be found on the restaurant’s wine menu, and the professionals at 220 Merrill strive to present guests with the best by the glass. From the moment wine enters the building, Sigler ensures the utmost care is taken, in both storage and delivery of wine to table. The restaurant’s temperature controlled refrigeration units, as well as Corivan preservation systems, to ensure proper storage and pristine taste.
To celebrate the honor, 220 Merrill has launched “Wine Down Wednesdays.” The weekly event offers guests 22.0% off bottles of wine (all day) and live entertainment on the patio (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). A percentage of Wednesday wine sales will be donated to the Junior League of Birmingham. The Junior League of Birmingham has been a leading force in improving the lives of women, children, and families by contributing more than one million volunteer hours through education and multiple community partnerships.
Another element of the restaurant’s wine program, 220 Merrill is hosting “Wine Tasting on the Patio” with Levendi Winery. Guests will receive five pours of specially-selected Levendi wines, from chardonnay to cabernet, plus charcuterie and hors d’oeuvres, for $25. The tasting event is Tuesday, August 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the tasting will take place inside the restaurant.
220 Merrill is located at 220 E. Merrill Street in Birmingham, Mich. For more information about 220 Merrill, please visit http://220restaurant.com/.
