Earlier this year, 3rdThird Marketing launched Cosmic Soup, a senior living podcast. Cosmic Soup touches on everything from branding to brain science to culinary and culture. It is aptly named because of its mix of subjects all related to providing senior living operators and professionals with creative ideas and information from industry experts.
Each episode highlights the brightest ideas in senior living and takes a deep dive into creative senior living topics around operations, marketing, science and health.
For summer, Cosmic Soup is producing episodes around therapeutic horticulture and aging services.
The September 8th episode features Cadence Living’s Principal, Rob Leinbach, as he discusses the 32-acre Cadence at Poway Gardens memory care community that includes a working organic farm near San Diego, California.
Cadence at Poway Gardens is a unique community because rather than a general continuum of care, it offers a continuum specific to memory care. The horticulture program consists of five expansive organic gardens that are managed by horticulture director, Roy Wilburn and produces over 20,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables, some of which is planted and harvested by residents and goes into the Poway Gardens dining program.
Cadence at Poway Garden’s horticulture therapy program provides its residents and surrounding community with cognitive, physical and social benefits. One of the unique aspects of this program
is donating the food to food banks and giving for the greater good. Its intergenerational program mixes local kids with residents to garden together.
Cadence Living Principal, Rob Leinbach, shares what the process is like to take over such a unique community, “We've worked really hard to openly communicate with the families to make sure that we continued all the things that were going well. Our executive director, Jay Johnson, is excellent about sending out daily communication emails to the families so that the process is interactive and the families feel engaged. We focused on making sure that the horticulture program not only continued, but would be enhanced by our encouragement and support.”
3rdThird Marketing has worked with Cadence Living since its inception with one community. The agency has provided branding and lead generation work for two years, including developing brands for collaborative projects such as the Acoya Living line of communities Cadence co-owns with Ryan Companies.
“We’ve loved working with Cadence. It’s been exciting to see them grow from one community to 25 today. Developing the Cadence brand was incredibly rewarding because owners Rob Leinbach and Eric Gruber had a vision for their company and it was fun to give it creative form. When they purchased Cadence at Poway Gardens I was thrilled and spent some time in the gardens with Horticulture Director Roy Wilburn. Seeing people living with cognitive decline, able to freely roam in beautiful yards with gardens, fruit trees and working with the earth was delightful,” said 3rdThird Principal, Cynthia Thurlow Cruver.
