San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 26, 2013
Be it a brand new parent, a parent-to-be or a veteran parent that's been doing it for years, any tips when it comes to saving money - especially on the purchases made most often made by parents - are welcome.
Utility purchases, gas expenses, homeowner needs and everyday necessities are what most parents spend the bulk of the family budget on. While cash back credit cards don't won't put a huge dent in any of the above expenses, they can at the very least earn parents and their families some cash back on the purchases they plan on making anyway. Given how important the bottom line is in American households, even a little saved each month on the most important expenses is worthwhile.
With that in mind, personal finance authority Creditnet.com today released its list ranking the 5 best credit cards for parents based on category. Creditnet's experts like to remind consumers that the offers below aren't available to every consumer and that none of these credit cards guarantee approval.
However, for U.S. consumers that are eligible, the offers below can help keep parents and families in the black when it comes to balancing the monthly budget.
1.) Best Credit Card for Utility Purchases: Barclaycard® Rewards MasterCard®
One of the only consumer credit cards that offers cash back on utilities, this rewards MasterCard from Barclaycard includes offers for both excellent ad average credit consumers. Both offers include 2x points on gas, groceries and - of course - utilities. These are the "Big 3" purchases for parents, which means consumers can stand to earn considerable cash back just by using this card for the necessities each month.
There's no annual fee, no blackout dates and no cash back limits. Earn cash back for the most necessary of monthly purchases with this excellent offer from Barclaycard.
2.) Best Credit Card for Groceries: Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
No credit card rewards parents (or any consumers, for that matter) for U.S. supermarket expenses quite like this cash back offer from American Express. Consumers earn 6 percent cash back at U.S. supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases (after that it's 1 percent). That's up to $360 per year in bonus cash alone, and what parent couldn't use that kind of extra cash just for making grocery purchases with an American Express card?
Members also earn 3 percent cash back at U.S. gas stations and select U.S. department stores, and 1 percent cash back on other purchases. There is a $75 annual fee to carry this card, but given the cash back afforded by this card it's likely to be a worthwhile investment for consumers that qualify.
3.) Best Credit Card for Gas Purchases: Discover it®
From July through September 2013, this cash back offer from Discover is offering cardholders 5 percent cask back on up to $1,500 in purchases at gas stations with free and easy sign-up. According to GasBuddy.com, the average gallon of gas currently hovers just over $3.66 a gallon, meaning cardholders can save an average of 18 cents per gallon of gas just for paying with this Discover card through September, 2013 (again, up to $1,500 in gas purchases).
That bonus cash back category will change in Quarter 4, which begins October 1st and extends through the end of 2013. But until then, this is Creditnet's pick for the best gas rebate credit card today. There's also no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and the 14 month zero interest introductory period applies to both new purchases and balance transfers.
All these factors make Discover it® Creditnet's Editor's Choice Card for the summer of 2013.
4.) Best Credit Card for Frequent Family Travel: Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® - Earn 2x on All Purchases
For families that live a plane ride away from their closest friends and relatives, the opportunity to save on expensive airfare costs is crucial when it comes to affording the trip. This travel rewards card from Barclaycard makes Creditnet's list because of its flexible miles redemption and great miles rewards program.
First, cardholders that spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days as a cardholder receive 40,000 bonus miles, which according to Barclaycard equates to $400 on a member's next travel redemption (terms and conditions apply). Cardholders also earn 2x the miles on ALL purchases. As for redemption, members can book any airline, any time, and can receive 10 percent miles back when miles are redeemed for travel.
There's an annual fee to carry this card ($89, waived for the first year), but that's the only knock on an otherwise exceptional travel card for parents and families that fly often.
Finally, since life isn't only about the priorities.
5.) Best Credit Card to Entertain the Kiddies: Disney Rewards® Visa® Card
Nothing brightens a little one's eyes quite like the prospect of Disney. This rewards offer from Chase features Mickey Mouse on the card, and includes a $50 Disney gift card after a member's first purchase. Cardholders earn 1 percent rewards on everyday card purchases - which according to their website can be redeemed on just about anything Disney-related - and members can save 10 percent on select purchases of $50 or more at DisneyStore.com and other Disney store locations.
Parents with youngsters saving up for a trip to Disney can get a little farther, a little faster with this credit card offer for Mickey-lovers, and there's no annual fee to carry this card.
