Roller Coaster Race Returns to Kennywood
West Mifflin, PA (PRWEB) May 12, 2016 -- For the second straight year, runners will be able to race past the Racer and jog by the Jack Rabbit during the most thrilling run of the summer.
On Sunday, June 5, Kennywood teams up with Roller Coaster Race for the second annual event at the Pittsburgh-area theme park: a 5K run/walk and a 10K race.
The USATF-sanctioned running events for all skills and ages encourage fitness and entertainment for the whole family. The course takes competitors through Kennywood, named a National Historic Landmark in 1987, offering a unique perspective of the park before it opens. The races also travel through nearby communities surrounding Kennywood. The 2015 course has been redesigned to be flatter and faster.
Once Kennywood opens, the Roller Coaster Ride begins. Riders climb aboard Kennywood’s six unique coasters to ride a total distance of five kilometers, traversing a total of 16,405 feet on the tracks.
Participants can register for a race, the Roller Coaster Ride, or both. Registration starts at $50 and includes free admission to Kennywood, shirt and finisher medal for each event, and a post-race party with DJ and refreshments. And the race’s new referral program refunds $2 of a participant’s registration fee for each referral.
The race benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh, Braddock Redux, SYTA Running for Youth, and the National Roller Coaster Museum & Archives.
“The Roller Coaster Race and Roller Coaster Ride provide participants the chance to create all-new Kennywood memories,” said Jerome Gibas, Kennywood General Manager. “Combining fitness, fun and fundraising for deserving non-profits will make for a great event.”
Adam Slate, Roller Coaster Race Director, says, “Kennywood was our largest race last year, and we’re working hard to make it our largest and best again this year.”
