94 future healthcare providers receive 2018 Next Generation Scholarship program grants
Summit Medical Group Foundation (SMGF) has awarded scholarships to 94 outstanding students who are pursuing college degrees and careers in medicine or a healthcare-related field. SMGF is committed to creating healthier tomorrows for all members of the community by improving access to healthcare for underserved individuals, educating and inspiring future healthcare providers, and promoting the courage, confidence and emotional well-being of individuals and their families facing cancer.
"We are so proud of all the students who applied to our program," says Dr. Howard Blaustein, Chair of the Summit Medical Group Foundation's Next Generation Scholarship Committee. "This scholarship program allows us to make education more affordable to local students who are beginning their medical professional journey. These students are the next generation of health professionals who will continue to help improve the health and well-being of New Jersey."
As part of Summit Medical Group Foundation's 2018 Next Generation Scholarship Program, the students were required to have primary residence in New Jersey, be enrolled in an accredited program in the United States, have strong academic standing and be pursuing a career in a healthcare-related field. All applications were reviewed based on the goals of the individual, his or her unique story of challenge and the financial burden involved.
"I am so grateful to the Foundation for this scholarship. Since I was a child, it has been my life dream to be a neurosurgeon like Ben Carson," said Vince Polidor, a Next Generation Scholarship recipient. "This is the first step in my future that is truly life-changing," Polidor adds. Polidor and his sister Danielle, both with their sights set on careers in medicine, received grants through the 2018 Next Generation Scholarship program.
This year, the Foundation awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships. Ninety-four New Jersey students received scholarships ranging between $500 and $2500. Over the past four years, the Foundation has awarded more than $230,000 to New Jersey students pursuing careers in healthcare.
