Angela Graham Brings Old Wives’ Tale to Life in New Children’s Book
Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) April 16, 2014 -- Author Angela Graham fondly remembers the many old wives’ tales her grandparents told her. “Eat your carrots. You’ll see better in the dark,” and “Eat your oatmeal. It will stick to your ribs and keep you warm,” are two of the many tales her grandparents told her. Focusing in on her favorite saying, “Don’t swallow the cherry pits, or a cherry tree will grow out of your ear,” Graham’s new children’s book asks the question, “What is Growing Out of Your Ear?” (published by AuthorHouse).
Graham’s book follows a 6-year-old girl, Angela, who is simply enjoying the summer and all it has to offer – including its ripe fruit. Upon returning from eating fresh cherries with her sister, Angela’s grandmother notices the pits are gone from the cherry bowl. Angela’s plans to have a great summer come to a screeching halt in that moment as her grandfather brings to light a frightening consequence of eating the cherry pits – the impending growth of a cherry tree from Angela’s ear.
An excerpt from “What is Growing Out of Your Ear?”:
“My sister and I were in the backyard, eating cherries. They were so yummy. When we finished, we brought the bowls into the house to give to my Grandma. ‘What, Angela? No cherry pits?’ my Grandma asked me. ‘No. I ate them,’ I said proudly. My Grandpa walked by. ‘You know what that means?’ ‘No. What?’ I answered. ‘A cherry tree will grow out of your ear’, he told me. ‘That is silly!’”
