Ms. Miller, who resides in Herndon, Virginia, made the connection with photography at an early age, although the transition from avocation to vocation occurred only recently.
She says, “For me, photography delivers clarity. Through the camera lens, I see with an uncluttered mind. In doing so, I become my most natural self. The world opens up to me and I am able to capture images as vision. The work I do in the editing room elucidates; it is where I take what I have seen and express to the world how I feel about it.”
Calumet Photographic manager Carol Ann Smith says they are pleased to host the exhibit of Miller’s work, not only because the pieces “so beautifully explore angle, shape, color and detail but because the exhibition allows visitors to gain new insight about a member of the local photographic community.”
Photographs from the exhibit will be on sale through Calumet Photographic and will be available for pick up after the exhibit closes on September 3.
ABOUT ANITA MILLER
Anita Miller is software engineer by day and fine-art photographer by night. She is equally comfortable delivering sophisticated software systems for exacting clients and shooting abstracted flowers or close-ups of bumble bees. “Creatively,” she says, “there is less separation between the two worlds than you’d think. Both require a vision—and then the patience to see that vision evolve and come to fruition—no matter how long it takes.”
Nature in its broadest sense inspires most of Miller’s photographs, as do her travels. She maintains a library of nearly 50,000 of her images, a testament to her long relationship with the medium. She also utilizes various editing techniques to ensure the original vision is properly translated to paper.
While she has been intrigued with photography since she was 12 years old, Miller began to pursue photography as a vocation in 2011, when she opened her business, Nature’s Images by Design. Her work has been shown in numerous photography exhibitions, and she has curated several online shows for fPOE (Female Photographers of Etsy). Miller lives with her husband in Herndon, Virginia, outside Washington, D.C.
