Ashley Vaughn, now an adult, recalls her experience as a 12-year-old girl living in Texas in the 1990s. She is navigating life surrounded by family, friends and teachers. Her unconventional, yet loving parents provide many entertaining moments through their involvement in school functions and their attire. Ashley’s best friend and sidekick, Kristen Bennett, accompanies her throughout the journey, and Ashley’s teachers provide humor and a minimal amount of drama, as they often see things differently than Ashley and her classmates.
