Attorney David Maloney Stresses Safety through Sobriety
Mobile, AL (PRWEB) July 02, 2015 -- Every year, DUI arrests and fatalities spike on the 4th of July. In fact, because of drunk drivers, the 4th of July may be the deadliest day of the year when it comes to being on the road. According to attorney David J. Maloney, the statistics are sobering.
“The National Highway Traffic Safety Association reports that 40% of all highway deaths between 2007 and 2011 were caused by drunk driving over the 4th of July weekend, and in 2012, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), almost half of all crashes with fatalities during July 4th weekend involved a drunk driver,” said Maloney. “In cases of drunk driving accidents, there are so many people that are affected by the accident, not just the person dying or injured. Whole families are often impacted.”
Maloney, who is one of the most recognized attorneys on the Gulf Coast, having appeared in more than 200 commercials and the Sara Evans music video, “Cheatin’,” is perhaps even better known for his unwillingness to represent drunk drivers, despite being a litigation lawyer. In fact, Maloney, who was recently nominated and is a finalist for Nappie Awards in the categories of Best Local Television Commercial and Best Lawyer to Sue the Pants off Someone in Lagniappe Magazine, goes after DUI offenders, and if applicable, the bar that over-served the person, by utilizing the Dram Shop Act.
“This statute may make a business that sells alcoholic drinks or a host who serves liquor to a drinker, who is obviously intoxicated or close to it, potentially liable to anyone injured by the drunken patron or guest,” said Maloney. “To avoid this altogether, and to prevent drunk driving accidents, we urge everyone this 4th of July to take a pledge to refrain from driving while intoxicated and have a designated driver.”
