BANG! The Drum School, Born From A $25,000 Drum Solo, Announces New Class
New York City, New York (PRWEB) July 07, 2013 -- The Level 2 Adults Group Class, "Drumming for Near Beginners," began accepting registrants this week at BANG! The Drum School's website, http://www.bangthedrumschool.com.
"We've been selling out the Absolute Beginners Drumming Class consistently for about three years," said Mark Feldman, a professional drummer and BANG's founder.
"Students have been asking for a follow-up class, and I'm excited to finally be able to offer one. The Level 2 Class, Drumming For Near Beginners, starts on Tuesday August 6th at our studios here in Manhattan."
The story of the school's creation and growth is similar to a fairy tale, but one based on dedication, perseverance and the pursuit of one's dreams, rather than on magic.
In 1987, Feldman, then an up and coming NYC drummer, submitted a 2 minute drum solo on a cassette to Modern Drummer Magazine, the world's largest drumming publication.
Mark's submission was one of almost 1700 entries in the "Neil Peart Drum Set Give Away Contest." Mr. Peart, the legendary drummer from RUSH, was the judge of the drum solo competion, the first one ever to run in Modern Drummer Magazine. As one of the winners, Mark was awarded Neil's massive Slingerland chrome drum kit as a prize. That drum set is the same one that is depicted on the cover of RUSH's first live album, "All The World's A Stage."
Mark stored the famed drum set for many years, but in 2009 he sold it on Ebay to a collector for $25,000.
That money was used to fund the 2009 creation of BANG! The Drum School and it's relocation to 584 Eighth Avenue in Manhattan in July 2012.
Feldman sums it up: "One of the founding philosophies of BANG! is that dreams do come true, and that you should pursue them. It still seems unbelievable to me, but I managed to turn a two minute drum solo into $25K, and that allowed me to start my dream business. Our new class is designed to help beginning drummers get better so that they can follow their dreams as well."
