Barbara Leigh Ohrstrom’s New Memoir Chronicles Search for Birth Parents, True Identity
Boston (PRWEB) March 17, 2014 -- In Barbara Leigh Ohrstrom’s new book, “Searching for the Castle: Backtrail of an Adoption” (published by iUniverse), she chronicles the journey she took to find her birth parents and her true identity.
Ohrstrom also brings to light the struggles adoptees – especially young adoptees – face when navigating the governing laws and agencies involved in the adoption process.
The story begins with Ohrstrom as an 18-year-old woman sifting through court papers, letters, Division of Social Service documents and other items to piece together her past.
Some of her discoveries were filled with pain, Ohrstrom says, but others were joyful. Counted among her pleasant surprises was her finding her long-lost siblings, nieces and nephews.
“I want to raise awareness about the anguish of not knowing one’s biological roots,” Ohrstrom says. “I felt that my identity could not be complete until I discovered my past; and once I understood my roots, I could understand myself.”
