“Scott is an extremely valuable member of our team because he has immense knowledge of the marketplace, combined with a long history and record of successful transactions,” said BHHS Manager Kyle Kemp, in congratulating Williams on the milestone.
Early on, Scott Williams chose to focus on the community known as The Mesa. He established a name for himself by going door to door to meet the residents. “I knocked on over 20,000 doors early in my career, talking to more than 10,000 people about the market in their neighborhood,” he said. “I really got to know my clients through these personal connections.”
Williams reflected on a conversation he had when he was starting out. “In 1977, an older agent took me aside, wished me luck, and said that it takes five sales to get your feet wet, 60 sales to appreciate what can happen, and 200 sales to master the business,” said Williams. “With 700 sales, I have learned the best practices for how to serve people.”
Every month, Williams writes and distributes a newsletter to 3,100 Mesa homeowners. He has sold 390 homes on the Mesa. He has come to be known as “The Mesa Man,” for his work in that area. He has worked diligently to educate the public through numerous interviews and articles on real estate trends written for the Santa Barbara News Press. He has also hosted free lectures on economics and real estate trends in the South Coast.
Additionally, Williams taught more than 500 people in his popular adult education classes on Staging Homes, through City College. He believes that proper staging can add significant value to a home.
All in all, Williams finds that helping people to buy their first home is the most gratifying part of being a Realtor. Significantly, his 700th closing was with a young couple starting out with their first home. “Dropping off the keys to first time owners is a joy that never gets old,” he said.
