Best Drug Rehabilitation CEO Per Wickstrom Speaks to Lem Barney at Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event

Mr. Barney, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest defensive backs in Detroit Lions history and was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1992, believes that the root challenge lies in the fact that, compared to parents of yesteryear, today’s parents aren’t teaching, training and educating their children about drugs and alcohol.
“When I was young, my mom and dad told me about the threats and dangers of drugs and alcohol, and that helped me stay on track,” commented Mr. Barney. “However, today’s parents aren’t sharing that same message, and I think it’s because they don’t know how to speak to their kids, or execute the message. They know what to say – they just don’t know how to say it.”
“Lem’s point about the communication disconnect between young people and their parents today is extremely insightful and very accurate in my experience,” commented Per Wickstrom, who personally battled addiction issues and intimately understands the pressures and challenges that individuals and families face as they seek addiction rehabilitation. “Kids and parents need to talk, to share, and to let each other know that they’re cared for and loved. While we can do many great things at a community level, ultimately, it comes down to families and how they work – or, unfortunately, how they don’t.”
