Best Drug Rehabilitation CEO Per Wickstrom Speaks to Dan Miller at Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event
(PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Per Wickstrom, the CEO of holistic treatment facilities including Best Drug Rehabilitation, recently sat down with Detroit Lions radio play-by-play announcer Dan Miller at the Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event to discuss the problem of skyrocketing drug and alcohol abuse among Detroit and America’s youth.
Mr. Miller, who is also the sports director and anchor at Detroit’s WJBK ("Fox 2"), noted that while it’s never been easy to be a young person, today’s children have much more pressure and stress than those of previous generations, including his own.
"Today’s kids are bombarded by so many images," commented Mr. Miller. "There’s so many things flying at them, and they have so much more to handle. And unfortunately, one of the ways that young people are trying to cope with these pressures is by turning to drugs and alcohol."
When asked by Per Wickstrom about what solutions might help stop the nation’s growing addiction epidemic among young people, Mr. Miller said that it all comes down to communication: "Before kids get to the point of addiction, we need to tell them that we, as parents, are here to answer their questions, and that they can come to us for help. Frankly, there’s no way to absolutely prevent kids from being exposed to drugs or alcohol. But what we can do is strive to give them as much information as possible, so that they’ll hopefully make the right decisions. We have to eliminate the fear factor in communication, because if kids feel like they’re blocked off, they’re more likely to do something that they’ll regret later on."
"Dan’s insights about communication are absolutely true and cannot be understated," commented Per Wickstrom, who is a leading advocate for an approach to drug rehab programs and addiction treatment that empowers clients to experience complete health that embraces body, mind and spirit. "At the root of so many addiction problems that engulf not only individual sufferers, but also their families and friends, is lack of communication and, especially, listening. Indeed, people often forget that truly listening to others is part of communication – and frankly, it’s often more valuable and essential than speaking. When we really hear others, we empower and inspire them. And, simply put, the more we empower and inspire our young people, the more we’ll win the battle against the drug and alcohol epidemic in our country."
