Best Drug Rehabilitation has released new video featuring an interview with the treatment’s facility’s CEO Per Wickstrom and noted Family Practitioner and General Surgeon Dr. John R. Trotter II, on the increasing problem of prescription opiate abuse in America.

Deceptively referred to as “painkillers,” opiates are extremely addictive drugs that, according to the 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, lead to nearly 17,000 deaths each year. Many well-known prescription medications are classified as opiates, including Vicodin, Percocet, OxyContin and Fentanyl.

“As more Americans struggle with depression, particularly as a result of these difficult economic times, we’re seeing more of them cope by abusing or sometimes even selling opiates,” commented Dr. John R. Trotter II. “What we need to do is provide more education, so that individuals understand the consequences of abusing opiates. We also need to focus more on herbals and other natural supplements to combat depression, and take a multi-systemic approach to dealing with pain that can include nerve blocks, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and other alternative methods.”

“John is 100% correct in focusing on education and prevention,” commented Per Wickstrom. “We cannot solve the epidemic problem of prescription opiate abuse at the treatment level -- it’s just too big. We need to teach kids that there are other paths and options, and that drug abuse is never the answer. When this message gets across and we have the right support systems in place, we’ll start seeing the numbers decrease, and will finally win the war on drugs that has been raging – and turning our country’s children into casualties and corpses -- for more than four decades.”
