Beverly Fetzer Oakley Shares Struggles, Joy of Victory Over Cancer
Nashville, Tenn. (PRWEB) December 10, 2013 -- Beverly Fetzer Oakley shares a true story of faith and hope through a loved one’s cancer diagnosis, treatment and remission, in her uplifting new book, “Hanging On for Dear Life: Our Family's Victory over Cancer” (published by WestBow Press).
It was 1982 when Oakley’s husband, Jim, was diagnosed with cancer. The couple was in their early 30s with young children, and Oakley turned to writing for therapy and prayer for strength. “Hanging On for Dear Life” gives insight into her experiences as a caregiver, and her story is positive, hopeful and even humorous at times. The book offers helpful tips for those coping with a loved one’s cancer diagnosis and speaks to the realities that cancer patients and their families face. Ultimately, Oakley’s story is a resounding testament to the healing power of faith.
An excerpt from “Hanging On for Dear Life”:
“I do not want anyone to think I am super human, or that I never fall apart. I am not always tough. I am not as strong as my husband thinks I am. I’ve always felt when we do something, we should do it well. Sometimes I do fall apart, just never where anyone can see it. I’ve never had anyone show up for my pity parties. It would be odd for me to send out invitations. Negative emotions don’t get to stay here for long! Fall apart if you must. Fall down if you have to, then get up and find a way to go on. There will be enough crises in life. We don’t need to create them.”
