Author Bill Bays Announces New Biography of Nashville’s Founder
Ventura, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Upon visiting Sycamore Shoals State Park in Tennessee, author and historian Bill Bays was astounded the bookstore did not have a biography of James Robertson. An explorer and pioneer from the late 1700s, Robertson’s historical significance has been overshadowed by more popular names like Daniel Boone, but Bays offers the new biography, “James Robertson, Father of Tennessee and Founder of Nashville” (published by WestBow Press) to help Americans learn the city’s past.
“The Tennessee region has been somewhat overlooked as America’s first western frontier,” Bays explains. “It is important to fully understand the history that formed this great country to understand our current society.”
This compelling biography tells of the struggle to settle the first American frontier west of the Appalachians. A brigadier general, Robertson led a militia to protect settlers from the Indians and fought against the elements to survive. He believed in “manifest destiny” and put it into practice, establishing Nashville, Tenn., the westernmost settlement at the time.
Bays also recognizes notable figures like George Washington and Andrew Jackson, among others, for their leadership and the aid they offered to the Nashville settlement so it could survive, as it has to this day.
“I would like for readers to understand the sacrifices made by James Robertson and other settlers,” Bays writes. “This biography highlights the extraordinary toughness of frontiersmen, illuminating the efforts of Robertson and others to establish peace between the whites and their Indian neighbors during an epic violent clash between two cultures.”
